چکیده

Suppose Γ′ to be of a subgraph of a graph Γ. We define a sampling of a Γ-design B = (V,B) into a Γ′-design B′ = (V,B′) as a surjective map ξ : B → B′ mapping any block of B into one of its subgraphs. A sampling will be called regular when the number of preimages of any block of B′ under ξ is a constant. This new concept is closely related with the classical notion of embedding, which has been extensively studied, for many classes of graphs, by several authors; see, for example, the survey [28]. Actually, a sampling ξ might induce several embeddings of the design B′ into B, although the converse is not true in general. In the present paper we study in more detail the behaviour of samplings of Γ–complete designs of order n into Γ′–complete designs of the same order and show how the natural necessary condition for the existence of a regular sampling is actually sufficient. We also provide some explicit constructions of samplings, as well as propose further generalizations.

Conditional estimation of exponential random graph models from snowball sampling designs

A complete survey of a network in a large population may be prohibitively difficult and costly. So it is important to estimate models for networks using data from various network sampling designs, such as link-tracing designs. We focus here on snowball sampling designs, designs in which the members of an initial sample of network members are asked to nominate their network partners, their netwo...

Establishing bioequivalence in complete and incomplete data designs using AUCs.

Nonclinical in vivo animal studies have to be completed before starting clinical studies of the pharmacokinetic behavior of a drug in humans. The drug exposure in animal studies is often measured by the area under the concentration versus time curve (AUC). The classical complete data design where each animal is sampled for analysis at every time point is applicable for large animals only. In th...

Adaptive survey designs for sampling rare and clustered populations

Designing an efficient large-area survey is a challenge, especially in environmental science when many populations are rare and clustered. Adaptive and unequal probability sampling designs are appealing when populations are rare and clustered because survey effort can be targeted to subareas of high interest. For example, higher density subareas are usually of more interest than lower density a...
